Chronetic

Chronetic is a time-tracking and invoicing application for freelancers and independent professionals. It records the hours you work against a client and a service, shows them back to you in History, and turns them into invoices you can export as a PDF. It runs on iOS and macOS.

Local-first is the default, not a setting. Chronetic stores everything in a database on your own device. Cloud backup, cross-device sync, and anonymous usage data all exist, but each is off until you turn it on — and backup and sync put your data in accounts you control.

What it does

Live timer

Start a timer against a client and service, or log a session by hand. A running timer survives backgrounding and force-quit.

Clients & rates

Per-client and per-service rates, hourly or flat, with sensible defaults so most entries need no thought.

History

Your logged time grouped by period or by client, with totals, earnings, and inline editing.

Invoices

Generate an invoice from a date range, itemized or flat-rate, and export it as a PDF.

Backup

Manual CSV and JSON export, plus optional automatic backup to your own Google Drive.

Sync

Optional account-based sync to keep more than one device in step. Off unless you sign in.

How Chronetic uses Google Drive

Chronetic offers an optional automatic backup to Google Drive. It exists so that a freelancer's records survive a lost or replaced device, and it is off until you connect an account yourself.

When you connect Google Drive, Chronetic asks for a single permission — drive.file, which grants access only to files the application itself creates. Concretely, that means:

Chronetic writes a JSON and a CSV copy of your own time-tracking data into a folder named "Chronetic Backup" in your Drive.
It updates those same files on later backups. Each device you use writes its own separate pair of files, so two devices can never overwrite one another.
It cannot see, read, list, or modify any other file in your Drive. The permission does not allow it.
The backup lives in your Google account. The developer has no access to it.

Chronetic's use of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. Google user data is used solely to provide the backup feature described above — it is never sold, never transferred to others except as required by law, and never used for advertising. Full detail is in the Privacy Policy.

You can disconnect Google Drive at any time in Chronetic's Settings, and revoke the app's access entirely from your Google Account permissions page.

Availability

Chronetic is in active development and currently distributed for testing on iOS and macOS. It is not yet on the App Store.
